Thoughts of Construction: Five short verses accompanied by images of key Cura Design projects.

My recent talk given online at Living Futures Biophilic Summit held in Sud Tyrol, Italy on 25 September 2025 in the Leadership by Nature segment.

Sometimes there can be a kind of poverty in language during the design process that can focus almost exclusively on drawing and images with a kind of archi-speak that can distance both the design team and the Client from feelings about place and feelings about nature that surrounds a given project. In effect severely limiting or shutting down the discussion of why a project is designed the way it is. 

Why is so important in todays world. It expresses " I care" and "I believe" and in some cases " I love" - all of these things that are essential and at the heart of our profession in making a better world yet somehow do not get qualified either in our professional systems or in many cases our schools.

Unfortunately so much of our built environment manifests itself through other means and expresses the polar opposite - I dont care - I dont believe - I dont love - In this sense Architects and designers and their institutions have much to answer for regarding letting this happen.

The following images and verses endeavour to open up or expand on thoughts about leadership by nature with images of projects my practice has carried out combined with verses that talk about caring or believing or love.
